I learned that the Decimal numbers are:

Decimal numbers are written to the right of the Units separated by a comma. That is to say:

Hundreds Units, Tenths Hundredths

Decimal numbers are used to represent numbers smaller than the unit.

In the image below, the first square represents the Unit. If this unit is divided into 10 equal parts (second square), we will represent the Tenths. If the tenths divide them into 10 equal parts or the unit into 100 equal parts (third square), we represent the hundredths.

decimal numbers

Here are some examples:

examples of decimal numbers

First example: If the unit is divided into 10 equal parts, we will have tenths. And we have colored 7 of these parts. The way to write it is 0 units, 7 tenths = 0.7

Second example: In the second example we also have tenths and we have colored 1. It will be written as follows: 0 units, 1 tenth = 0.1

Third example: In the third example we have hundredths, of which we have colored 6 tenths and 4 hundredths. Therefore we will write: 0 units, 6 tenths 4 cents = 0.64

Fourth example: We have hundredths (the unit between 100), of which we have colored 3 tenths and 5 hundredths. We will write: 0 units, 3 tenths 5 hundredths = 0,35

more examples of decimal numbers

Fifth example: We have two whole colored units and the third unit, which is divided into hundredths, we have 8 colored tenths and one hundredth colored. Therefore, we will write: 2 units, 8 tenths 1 hundredths = 2.81.

I LEARNED ROUNDING DECIMALS?

Learn that to round a number to the unit we have to look at the first figure after the comma.

If this number is less than 5 (1, 2, 3, 4) we should not do anything, but if that number is 5 or greater (5, 6, 7, 8, 9) we must add one unit to the number.

round out.

Example:

Round to the unit the following number: 5,36

We look at the next number after the comma and it is 3. As it is less than 5, we should not do anything else, the rounded number is 5.

Example:

Round to the unit the following number: 32,74

We look at the next number after the comma and it is 7. As it is greater than 5, we must add a unit to the number.

32 + 1 = 33. The rounded number is 33.
